Known as both Canaveral Pier and Cocoa Beach Pier, this cradle of East Coast professional surfing made its name in the '60s as the stomping grounds of Gary Propper and a number of longboarding contests. When I was a kid, my friends and I would spend our Summer days at the pier.
I did not surf myself, but my friends did, and the challenge was to "surf" the pier without wiping out! And today the challenge is still there. Each year a couple of contests honor our surfing heritage, the most noted of which is the Cocoa Beach Easter Ron Jon's Surfing Festival, a 35-year tradition drawing thousands of spectators.
As you walk up the well traveled boardwalk of the Pier you will be walking in the footsteps of the world's most famous astronauts, movie stars, rock stars, surfers and millions of others who have chosen to spend their beach time at Cocoa Beach Pier. Many come for the great restaurants, bars, shops, fishing, surfing, live music and others come for the people watching that makes the Cocoa Beach Pier such an interesting place.
Whatever "Pier Pleasure" you come for, you will always be welcome to enjoy all that the Cocoa Beach Pier has to offer.
